INTRODUCTION

TO OUR

 JANSSEN FAMILY

Back in 1992 Vic Harrison was invited by Andy Gregson to visit Tony Dobson of Wigan where a draught of pigeons imported by Andy and Tony had that day completed the then necessary quarantine requirements. Vic always said that upon first glance at these pigeons you could immediately tell they were class, lined up on rails powder blues and darker blues, chequers light and dark, some white flighted. Just looking at these cocks and hens even with the colour differences you could tell they were a family of pigeons. He said he was mesmerised by their quality and handsome looks, all were mainly older youngsters bred that year 1992 with a handful of 1991 birds. These birds were Janssen pigeons bred by Betty de Bruyn of Reusel, Holland, as a close family friend of the Janssens she had a fabulous team of direct Janssen stock birds. Some might have said that at this time She owned the best team of Janssens in the World outside of the Janssen Brothers own loft. More can be found about Betty in The Janssen Brother book where she appears in photographs with the Brothers. Vic had not gone to look at these pigeons with any intention of purchasing, however, he picked out two cocks he just could not resist, one bred in 1991 the other 1992.

These two cocks The 91 Cock and The 26 Cock along with a son of Argan and two Janssen Van Den Bosche hens from Albert Babbington lines Vic had purchased around the same time formed the basis of our Janssen Stock team. They soon began to produce winners but luckily for us Vic was shrewd, unlike a lot of Fanciers he only raced one out of each four he bred in the early years, thus building a fantastic team of Janssen stock birds. Today 15 years later we still have sons, daughters, grandchildren, g/grandchildren etc. in our stock lofts off these original five pigeons. His foresight, patience and sacrifice in terms of winning first prizes left us with a legacy. Over the years Vic purchased a number of the Betty de Bruyn Janssens tracking them down in entire clearance sales etc. as the016henthey all had consecutive ring numbers NL92 15060??. Not all were as good as the original two but certainly two cocks nestmates Chantilly 03 and 04 purchased from two different sources and two hens 016 & 048 were just as special.

In addition to these original stock birds we have sought out and purchased a further five top class Janssen based pigeons over the years.

In 1999 we purchased The Scotch Hen bred by Lance Smith & Sons of Gretna a daughter off their SNFC winners Page Girl and Goldies Choice. This hen has bred many winners for us at club, fed, combine and specialist race level when paired to different cocks. She is the Dam of Remus 05 and Remus 19 which are both shown in the table above.

Wall 25 was our next acquisition in 2000 a beautiful blue Wal Zoontjes cock bred by A and M Guerts of Gemert Holland. This cock has bred prize winners with a number of hens, he is the Sire to Fed Toppers and the winner of Bamfords Old Bird Channel Challenge 2004.

In 2001 we purchased two direct Hilaire & Gilbert Surinx birds a cock Hilaire’s Boy and a hen Hilary. Both of these pigeons are bred down from Karel Meulemans and Herbots Brothers stock. Both are producing prize winners at all levels of competition and at varied distances.

The summer of 2004 saw us purchase our most recent addition The Jimmy Hen, this hen is slightly different being 50% Janssen based and the other 50% being distance blood. Her sire Cerafin won 1st Limoges 16,945 birds and her dam is Daughter Jimmy bred from Jimmy winner of 6 x 1st prizes. In 2005 the Jimmy Hen was paired to our distance bred cock De Narbonne 44 producing Victors Dream winner of 1st Section L & 5th Open NFC St Malo.
